The name SPAN stands for “Society for People’s Awareness”, reflecting the organization’s core belief that informed, empowered communities are central to sustainable social change.

Since its inception, SPAN International has remained deeply rooted in its founding values—social justice, equity, participation, and dignity. The organization continues to work with and for marginalized and vulnerable groups, especially children, by promoting awareness, protection, rights-based interventions, and inclusive development practices in Bihar.
Our Inspiration

Late Arun Das/Social Activist was a towering social activist of Bihar and founder of Span International, whose entire life was devoted to the service of society, justice, and the marginalized. He was widely known for his deep ideological commitment, strategic thinking, and fearless advocacy for people’s rights.
He was a motorist student of engineering but he left the collage and joint the JP moment belong to Darbhanga District of Bihar.
He played a significant leadership role in major socio-political movements of Bihar, including the JP Movement and the Bhoodan Andolan of Bodh Gaya, where he worked tirelessly for land rights, social equality, and democratic values. A thinker and planner by nature, he combined ground-level activism with strong strategic vision, making him an effective leader, writer, and movement builder.

Late Arun Das consistently stood with workers, farmers, students, and labor unions. He actively advocated for the rights of Sudha Milk laborers, trade unions, and the education sector, helping organize collective voices for dignity, fair treatment, and justice. His insight, clarity of thought, and deep understanding of social issues earned him great respect among IAS and IPS officers, policymakers, and ministers.
He was associated with several national and international-level organizations, contributing his experience and ideology to broader platforms for social change. In the year 2000, he founded the CACL (Campaign Against Child Labour) Network, marking a major milestone in his lifelong struggle for child rights, protection, and justice.
He worked with numerous organizations to combat child exploitation, promote education, and fight corruption at multiple levels. He stated that child labour does not arise from poverty; rather, child labour is a root cause of poverty.

Throughout his life, Late Arun Das remained firmly rooted in his own ideology—believing in self-reliance, integrity, and service to humanity. His honesty, simplicity, and helpful nature made him not just a leader, but a guide and mentor to many social workers and activists.

His life stands as a powerful example of commitment, courage, and compassion. Late Arun Das remains an ideal role model for social workers, whose legacy continues to inspire generations working for a just, equitable, and humane society.

Ravi Rakesh Ranjan has over 11 years of professional experience across the corporate and development sectors, including more than 5 years of dedicated work in the development sector.
His expertise spans Community Health, Humanitarian Assistance, Emergency Response, Disaster Management, Public Health, Systems Strengthening, Community Mobilization, Capacity Building, and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E).

He has extensive field experience across diverse geographies and thematic areas, particularly in rural health. His work includes maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH), malnutrition, improving the quality of institutional deliveries, and capacity building of health workers.

He brings strong mid-level experience with reputed organizations in the humanitarian assistance, disaster management, and community development sectors. Mr. Ranjan is known for his strong analytical abilities, effective communication and documentation skills, and a working style that is both target-driven and quality-oriented
Secretary | Development Professional

Abhimanyu Kumar is a committed development professional with over two decades of experience in the development sector, working since the year 2000. With a strong academic background in Master of Social Work (MSW), he has consistently contributed to programs focused on public health, disaster response, and livelihood promotion.
​
He has worked as an Immunization Officer in Bihar, closely associated with UNICEF, where he played a key role in strengthening mother and child healthcare services, immunization coverage. His work involved coordination with government departments, field implementation, monitoring, and community engagement to ensure effective service delivery.
​
Abhimanyu Kumar also brings valuable experience in disaster management and livelihood promotion, having worked with PCI (Project Concern International). Through this role, he supported vulnerable communities in recovery, resilience-building, and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
​
He possesses strong knowledge and practical experience in advocacy, planning, and result-oriented strategies. Known for his dynamic and influential leadership style, he effectively mobilizes teams, builds partnerships, and drives programs toward measurable outcomes.

Treasurer | Social Development Professional

Santosh Kumar is an experienced social development professional with over 18 years of dedicated service in the development sector, contributing extensively to the promotion of social justice, child protection, and community empowerment. He has worked with several reputed organizations, including Pathfinder Agragami India, Plan India, Bihar Dalit Vikas Samiti, Bihar, and many other local NGOs, where he played a key role in designing and implementing impactful social initiatives.
​
He holds strong academic and professional qualifications, including a Master’s in Social Work (MSW), Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW), a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), and a Diploma in Child Protection from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). This solid educational foundation supports his effective engagement in both policy-level advocacy and grassroots implementation.

Mr. Kumar possesses extensive expertise in project management, child rights promotion and protection, gender issues, training, and advocacy. His work reflects a deep and consistent commitment to safeguarding the rights of vulnerable communities, especially children, through rights-based and participatory approaches.
​
He has also actively contributed to statutory and community-based child protection mechanisms as a member of the Nigrani Samiti at Children Homes and Observation Homes, and as a member of the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) and the District Child Protection Committee (DCPC). Through these roles, he has strengthened child protection systems, monitoring mechanisms, and inter-departmental coordination.

With a strong balance of field experience, institutional engagement, and policy understanding, Santosh Kumar continues to drive initiatives that promote equity, dignity, and sustainable development. His leadership and commitment make him a valuable asset to any organization working toward social transformation.
