Our
Story

SPAN International was initiated in 2004 by a group of committed youth, including Abhimanyu Kumar , Santosh Kumar and Ravi Prakash Ranjan , who shared a strong sense of social responsibility and firsthand understanding of community-level challenges.

While working closely with communities in South Bihar, particularly in flood-prone and marginalized areas, they directly observed and experienced widespread child rights violations, extreme vulnerability, and the heightened risk of abuse, exploitation, and atrocities against children.

During this formative phase, the founders came into close association with Late Mr. Arun Das, a respected social activist known for his integrity, ideological clarity, and leadership in the JP Movement, Chhatra Yuva Vahini, and several other national-level movements. He was also actively associated with the Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL).

His guidance and support played a critical role in shaping the organization’s values and direction. Together, they actively intervened in cases of child exploitation, rescued vulnerable children, and supported legal action, including the lodging of FIRs to ensure justice and accountability.

These collective experiences highlighted the urgent need for a structured, organized, and multidisciplinary response to protect children and support marginalized communities. As a result, like-minded professionals—including advocates, doctors, social activists, scientists, and other respected individuals from Bihar—came together to strengthen the initiative and work holistically for the well-being, protection, and development of vulnerable children and communities.

Later in 2004, this collective effort was formally registered under the Societies Registration Act as SPAN International.
